Where would we be without trees?

Our passion for wood goes hand in hand with a deep appreciation for trees, a feeling beautifully expressed in “The Night Life of TREES”.  I discovered this handmade gem at Spoonbill & Sugartown in Williamsburg. The title first caught my eye, but the illustrations really won me over. This one is “The Night of the Glowing Sember”.

Three renowned artists, includingBhajju Shyam , of the Gond tribe of central India lent their talents to weaving together this collection of Hindi short stories. Today was the perfect day to bring it out to the hammock and have a look.

An intricately detailed tree spirit accompanies each story, silk screened by hand on black paper. My favorite is  “The Tree of Song”. Traditional forest dwellers, the Gonds believe that the lives of trees and humans are deeply interconnected.  Much like the way our furniture is made, this book is crafted by hand, created in the Tara Publishing workshop by a group of craftspeople from local villages, using hand processes. If you find a copy, don’t pass it by, this is one to cherish.

Restaurant Show

If you didn't make it to our booth at the International Restaurant Show at the Javits Center last week, here are some images we wanted to share...

The beautiful Ingas slab door was welcoming signage for visitors. We showcased the standard FTS pairing; rustic wood, with iron. Here, our logo was handmade with iron letters, which we applied to a piece of rosewood.

Below, a fun, new concept; an i-pod doc that maintains rustic sensibilities, with a fresh, modern, streamlined look. We are starting integrate acrylic into our line, so stay tuned to see the other creative ways we use the material...

Inside the booth, we highlighted the vertical applications of Ingas, Sonokeling and our Reclaimed Railroad Ties. This photograph showcases some other new products as well; our Teak "Sanoma" chairs ($250), Painted teak table tops ($85), Wireframe "Nest" table bases ($150), and our one of a kind Vine Pendant light ($650).

Below, a close up view of the pendant light, as well as our Sonokeling wall applications. Additionally, an alternate usage of the painted teak; shown here as benches, which flank our new "Flip" table. The teak table top sits square at 36", but "flips" open to become a 5' round.
